We really enjoyed our stay at Phumuza. We stayed in one of the smaller chalets close to reception and absolutely enjoyed the outdoor shower and outdoor cooking facilities - it made the bush experience exciting. The chalet was well-equipped and our hosts were friendly and accommodating, even bringing additional blankets for our small child. There are excellent opportunities for birdwatching and walking through the bush.
However, I was disappointed that, while bush walks at night and a jacuzzi were advertised, the former was no longer being done and the Jacuzzi was not working. There was also no signage at the gate to indicate that you have arrived at Phumuza - we drove right past it and had to ask directions on private property.
Regardless, I would recommend staying here: it offers everything you need for relaxation and is also the ideal stopover for visiting Warmbaths, which is just 10 minutes' drive down the road. This is the ideal bush experience: no television, swimming pool, outdoor cooking, a private braai and eating area, and an outdoor shower!

A first and a last
Hello there
I have travelled extensively in S.A and abroad, and I can honestly say that I have never come across a self-catering establishment like Phumuza.
The fact that it is called a "Lodge", give you some sort of expectation. But I think that they should change it to Phumuza bush and drop the word lodge.
It is called log cabins, but I would much rather call them wendy houses.
Yes, sure the website says that we had to bring our own towels etc.....but I think I should have just as well hooked my own house on a trailer and parked it there in the bush.
I have stayed in many, yes many self-catering establishments in my life, but Phumuza has left a bitter taste in my mouth.
I will never go back there again and will definitely not recommend it to anyone.

Diplomatic Tailored Tours - Phumuza Bush Lodge
We arrived on Saturday, 30th April with a group of 25 people. The rooms were comfortable and clean and Sharon and Pat were very friendly hosts.
A nice lodge not to far from Pretoria or Johannesburg, if you are wanting peace and quite and enjoying a relaxing time, Phumuza Bush Lodge is the place. Thanks

Bad Experience
We booked in this establishment as I was competing in an off road challenge just outside Bela Bela, it rained for 3 days before the Friday night and the event was moved due to farm road conditions. We never stayed at the resort for the following reasons, no-one answered the gate bell after ringing it for almost 30 minutes, we tried calling the resort and the calls kept going to voicemail service, as a last resort I sent sms's communications. We tried calling for over 30 minutes. We eventually after getting stuck in the mud on the way to our destination turned around and headed back to town to find alternative accommodation. I'm aware that the weather is out of anyone's control but we did not even receive a caution phone call, the access is via dirt track and in the wet a 4x4 vehicle is required. We never received a call when we had not arrived by 4 30 pm... NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE AT ALL

This was our second stay at Phumuza. We really enjoyed the quiet and peace. What did bother us a bit was that it was stressed that we should keep all windows and doors locked and activate the window alarms and the alarm on the stoep of the cabin. This made us a bit uneasy and more alert than we were the last time. We were also not advised that towels are not supplied, but luckily we brought our own. Pat and Sharon were very friendly. although they planto convert the camp to a drug rehab centre, Pat did say that would make a plan for us should we want to visit them again. Anthony and Ronell.

Excellent weekend
It was the most peaceful weekend I had in years. We were staying at the Troupand lodge. Very clean and private. Although we did not see any wild animals there were some tracks around the lodge. There were some loud music playing on Saturday afternoon but it thankfully got quiet as the evening arrived. Will definitely book again. Gerhard & Liza

Very Unhappy
Got robbed on our first night. Owner aware of situation regarding break ins but doesn`t seem eager to go the extra mile to ensure safety of visitors. Braai facility at log cabins very unpractical. Double bed in log cabin bent and not in a safe condition to sleep on

Great getaway
Phumuza is a great chilled bush lodge. It is rustic yet clean and quiet.
I checked and we weren't told to bring our own towels and the kitchen was not equipped with dishtowels or cloths. The unit was also not serviced which was unexpected.
Other than that it was a great escape from the rat race.
Thanks

Phumuza Bush Lodge Very Relaxing
My hubby and I stayed at the Troupant Chalet, it was really private. The chalet was lovely and clean.
I would definately recommend to anyone who is looking to get away from it all!!

Great little getaway
Phumuza is a little hidden gem and is highly recommended for alcoholic golfers who like to get loud without disturbing anyone.
