Sea Spray
We were just happy to find a BB with a sea-view room still available. However, after we paid half of the price we got informed that the room is not available any more but he could us offer another option, the pool room, but for the same price. We accepted the offer. We were told the room is just the same as the others only with a view at the pool. First of all, the room was so mouldy and stinky, that I had problems sleeping that night. Another thing was that the view was one side on the parking lot, and the other to the pool, so nearly everybody could look into the room. So the shutters were closed all daylong to keep our privacy. We asked Warren if he could help us with the disgusting smell. He only told us that it is probably due to a long unoccupied period and the maid should have ventilated the room before our arrival...we drove to a shopping mall nearby and bought some candles with flavour.
After the second night we decided to leave the place because we did not feel comfortable. Even though we paid the whole stay, Warren accused us that we paid less. We were very disappointed: first of the attitude, not to say sorry and second of the location of the BB. It is in the South of Durban, which is not a welcoming area for tourists, very industrial, with the airport and oil refineries. We were looking for restaurants, but the only area you could go there is the shopping mall Galeria. The advantage of the location of the BB is that it is very close to the beach. In addition, and advantage is to like dogs. There are three dogs in and around you, also during breakfast. On the way to the beach it is possible to spot some dog poop in the garden.
All in all, sorry to say but unacceptable.
Establishment Response:
I would like to comment on the review posted by MariaLuef. The couple arrived early , the unit had not been opened andaired as is the usual practice. I mentioned this to them. There was aslight musky smell, due partly to the lack of air and partly to the leathercouch. Normally within a short period the musky smell woulddisappear. The following morning they arrived at breakfast and complainedabout the smell. I instructed the cleaning staff to air the unit and freshen itup with lavender spray.
I have lived in that unit for many years and thoroughly enjoyed it. A lady spent one night this week and I purposely asked her opinion. She replied saying that the unit is very nice.
I wish I could post a review on this couple as the state of the unit when I checked it in the morning was shocking. All the towels were strewn across the floor and the bedding dumped in a heap. I even mentioned this to another couple who had been here for 10 days.
They don’t like the area, they don’t like this and they don’t like that. They don’t like dogs , they are appalled at the sight of dog poo, which by the way is cleared during the course of the morning.
There was a bit of confusion as to the balance owing, that’s all it was, confusion. Nobody was accused of anything.
The picture is beautiful, but doesn't reflect what you find there... Sea Spray is one of a kind and a gem so rare and beautiful! Warren is an excellent, accommodating host and we've never encountered such warmth and true hospitality! The staff were excellent, the breakfasts outstanding the facilities of a very, very classy and high standard!
We cannot wait to go there again and if you should ever doubt your stay for holiday; Sea Spray is the place to go!
