Train Lodge

We were looking forward to staying in what we thought would be an interesting train conversion. What we experienced was extremely run-down accommodation. Communal toilet door had no lock and the other toilet in our carriage had the seat ripped off and lying on the floor. The door to the outside shower (which only had cold water) was locked and nailed shut. We were told we could use the shower across the platform outside another carriage. No soap or paper towels in the toilets. The previous evening the hotel had hosted what the front-desk clerk told us was a "rave" involving about 450 people on the platform between the coaches. Broken bottles and cigarette butts littered the floor. At 2.00pm, when we checked in, it looked as if cleanup had just begun ... and never finished! The photograph representing the platform lounge is not accurate as the furniture (torn and dirty) was not fit to sit on. Apart from the bar, the entire operation was shoddy and well below second-rate. We would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
